Google has teamed up with South Africa’s Tourism team to bring 20 best locations from SA. Among the 20 best places, people will vote for top three locations. Its a part of street view campaign launched by Google on 1st September 2009. The wider aim of the campaign is to promote South Africa for a tourism portal.

Roshene Singh from South African Tourism said, “We are only too happy to join forces with Google to bring our country’s diversity to the world in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The new Trikes will help showcase even more of South Africa’s unique travel offering, and we look forward to enthusiastic voting from the public.”

Stephen Newton, head of Google South Africa, said, “This has been a hit for tourism around the world and now we want to make it even better for showing off South Africa’s history, nature and culture.

The interesting part of the story is the way the Google will be taking these photographs. Its a new way, involving a tricycle. Yes, its tricycle called Google Trike. The tricycle will allow Google to take pictures from a place where its early Toyota Prius Car could not reach. The technology is very impressive and at the same time simple to use. It can only be wondered how such simple innovation can bring complex applications such as Street View to your PC.

This step will not only improve South Africa’s business prospect but will also pave way for other Tourism country to act accordingly.
